+ Is Your Skin Suddenly Feeling Drier?

What a September!

This month reminded me just how quickly life moves—and how important it is to stop and enjoy these moments while they're happening.

First, we celebrated my beautiful Mom's 75th birthday!

And what made it even more special was having my brother come to visit so we could all be together.

There was plenty of togetherness, laughter, dog love and, of course, a little mischief courtesy of the kittens.

And Our Family Is Growing… ❤️

We also celebrated my daughter-in-law and our future grandson, Jax, at her baby shower! It was such a warm, fun day in Atlanta, and there was so much love and happiness surrounding this little baby already.

And I have to admit…

I'm pretty excited about becoming Gigi!

After almost 20 years of SanRe, many of you have watched our family grow right alongside this little skinfood business ;-)

Some of you have been customers for years—and even decades—and that's one of the reasons I enjoy sharing these personal moments with you!

You aren't just seeing SanRe products.

You've watched our lives change, too.

And perhaps that's what September reminded me of most:

Everything Changes!

Our families change.  Our lives change.  The seasons change.  And yes…even our skin changes.

We don't have to fight every change.

Sometimes we simply need to notice it, adjust, release, and give ourselves a little more of what we really need.

Thank You for being here and for supporting our little family business through so many seasons of our lives!

With love,

Sandra  ❤️

P.S. If your skin is suddenly feeling drier and you're not sure how to adjust your SanRe routine for the cooler weather, reply and tell me what you're currently using and how your skin is feeling. I'm always happy to help. ❤️

Is Your Skin Suddenly Feeling Drier?

Have you noticed that your moisturizer feels wonderful when you put it on in the morning…but by 4 or 5 o'clock, your skin feels dry or tight again?

Or maybe the moisturizer you loved all summer suddenly doesn't seem to be quite enough.

Listen to your skin. It's telling you something.

As temperatures drop and the air becomes cooler and drier—and eventually we start spending more time indoors with the heat running—our skin may lose water more easily.

And for those of us in our 40s, 50s and beyond, that seasonal transition can become even more noticeable.

After 45, There's Something Else Happening Too...

As estrogen levels decline during perimenopause and menopause, our skin changes. We tend to produce less of our natural oils, collagen declines, and the skin can become thinner and drier.

Our skin barrier may also become less efficient at holding onto water. And that brings me to something I talk about often:

Transepidermal water loss—or TEWL.

Water naturally moves from deeper layers of our skin toward the surface, where some of it eventually evaporates. A healthy skin barrier helps slow that process. This is one of the reasons I believe so strongly in good moisturization, particularly as we get older.

Moisturizing isn't only about adding something to dry skin.

It's also about helping our skin hold onto the moisture it already has.

Think of your moisturizer as another layer of protection between your skin and the outside world.

Don't Wait Until Your Skin Is Begging for Moisture

If your skin feels wonderful in the morning but noticeably drier by the end of the day, I would pay attention.

It may simply mean that your summer routine isn't quite enough anymore.

Once your skin feels dry and tight, you've already lost some of that comfortable hydration you were trying to maintain.

So instead of constantly playing catch-up, pivot your routine when your skin starts asking for more.

And please don't think that means you suddenly need 10 products! Sometimes one small adjustment is enough.

You can add a nourishing serum underneath your moisturizer.

You can apply a little more of the moisturizer you're already using.

You can add an extra layer.

Or you might simply need to switch from your lighter summer moisturizer to something a little richer.

For particularly dry or mature skin, I love layering—serum first, moisturizer next, and if needed, something richer as your final layer, especially at night.

Nighttime Is When I Really Pay Attention

I've been formulating organic skincare for almost 20 years, but aging has taught me things about skin that formulation books never could.

I've had to learn to listen to my own changing skin, too.

At night, I cleanse well to remove my makeup and everything my skin has accumulated throughout the day. Then I moisturize.

And I don't skimp.

If my skin is asking for more, I give it more. That might mean adding a serum, applying an extra layer of moisturizer, or reaching for something richer.

There were SanRe products that I once thought were too rich for my skin...

Now???  Some of them are exactly what my skin craves!

But My Morning Routine Is Surprisingly Simple

In the morning, I don't cleanse my face again. I simply splash my face with cool water.

At this stage of my life, I don't feel the need to wash away my natural oils—and all that beautiful moisture I gave my skin the night before—just so I can start all over again.

I moisturize, apply my tinted moisturizer, add a little Cheeky Lips to my lips and cheeks…and I'm pretty much done.

I've actually learned that as I've gotten older, I prefer less makeup and more beautiful, moisturized skin.

Your Skin Doesn't Follow a Calendar

There's no magical date when everyone should switch to their fall or winter skincare routine.

Your skin will tell you when it's time.

If it still feels soft, comfortable and moisturized at the end of the day, wonderful. Don't change something that's working.

But if you're suddenly noticing tightness, dryness, flaking—or you're reaching for your moisturizer again by afternoon—listen.

Add a layer.  Use a little more.  Try something richer.

And pay particular attention to what you're doing at night.

What worked beautifully for your skin at 35 may not be exactly what it needs at 45, 55 or 65.

Our skin changes. The seasons, years and conditions change. Our skincare should be allowed to change with them ;-)
