When I slid into perimenopause, my once-easygoing skin got complicated—thirsty, picky, and very vocal. I felt that shift hard, so I’m sharing what’s helped me, because these changes catch so many of us by surprise.
As estrogen dips (often well before full menopause), your skin makes less natural oil and hyaluronic acid. Your moisture barrier gets leaky—dermatologists call it transepidermal water loss; I call it “my face forgot how to hold a sip of water.” Collagen and elastin production also slow down, so skin feels thinner, tighter, and more sensitive. Mine hit like hail in sunshine: one day fine, the next… parched. This is why it’s crucial to moisturize and lock in that moisture to help slow visible aging.
On my own shelf, I start with one of our eye creams or balms, like Eye of Youth or Eye Nectar, to pull in hydration.
Then I follow with a truly rich moisturizer—look for oils and natural waxes high on the ingredient list. For me, Siesta Sunset and Lavender Dream do the trick. That combo stops the “dryness spiral” that makes texture look dull and fine lines cranky.
Daily habits matter more than you think. At night, cleanse gently—skip stripping foams and soaps—and use lukewarm water. My go-to are our Cucumber or Rose Cleansers. Apply moisturizer while skin is still slightly damp. That’s free hydration. In the morning, I usually skip cleanser and go straight to a generous layer of moisturizer.
Feeling tight by midday? Do a quick top-up or press in a few drops of a nourishing facial serum. Any of our serums play nicely—my personal fave is C-Splendid. Layer serum under your cream at night for extra cushion.
And if you’re a beach lover or skier like me, SPF is non-negotiable. UV fast-tracks collagen loss, and dryness makes it show faster.
Bottom line: hormones change your skin’s moisture economy, but a smarter routine keeps it supple, comfy, and radiant through peri and post-menopause. Moisturizing isn’t just “nice”—it’s your core move for a calm barrier and softer-looking lines.
